bait boats

hello message board.
i would like to open the debate on bait boats.
this Thursday is the meeting at high lane con club were the use of bait boats will be mentioned and looking like they will be banned.
i was lucky enough to be given a boat bait recently and had a play on some day ticket waters.and here are some points
1.. yes you can get the bait were you want it, this means that i am not disturbing the swim casting and re- casting my lead to the point i am happy with.
2... by placing my bait in the swim this way i am not running the risk of tangling my hook in a tree and there for creating a further risk to wild life.
3.. other anglers can see were i am fishing and avoid my swim so reduce the risk of crossing my line.
4... the chances are that if i am using the bait boat i am trying to get to swims that others can not reach and by this i would be out of there way.

i feel bait boats offer a cleaner, safer way to fish. i also agree that you can cast to all swims on DNMAC waters ( if you are a good at casting)
i think they should be allowed but with a few restrictions
1 bait should be limited
2 you can only fish your swim ( eg half way rule)
3 boat should be sent straight out and back in (no playing action man commando games )
4 you agree to remove your boat if a reasonable request is made by a fellow angler ( eg nesting birds)

maybe a trial on disley dam, birch vale and linnet only at first and a review in 6 months?

some of the negative feeling toward these boats has nothing to do with the actual boats but the way some people fish!

i look forward to hearing other views.

john

AGM proposals

Is it usual procedure at AGMs that the proposals are only to be voted on because they have been discussed previously? Ive never heard of that before in other clubs. It seems to go against the whole idea of having an AGM where rules are made for the whole year. An important proposal can be voted for or against by people who havn't got the faintest clue what is about, because they were not at the October meeting. Or is that the idea?

Piking

Hi all. Has anybody been out piking on our waters this year yet? Macc pools or Birch? (Has ANYBODY caught a pike at Macc at all?). I'll be out at Birch in the next week or two, and in the past I've mostly fished off the 'island' (2/3 way down the bank furthest from the river), mainly because I'm with a mate, and we can sit and chat together but still be near the rods. Does anyone have any opinions or advice on where is best to fish on Birch (or Macc), and what methods to use. I've always ledgered deadbaits, fairly close in, as I've never had any luck out in the open water. What do you reckon???

Factory explosion at Birch Vale reservoir

Birch Vale is now clear to fish. All the debris has been removed but keep an eye out for any glass or asbestos which may have been missed. DO NOT HANDLE THE ASBESTOS BUT REPORT ITS PRESENCE IF DETECTED TO THE DERBYSHIRE COUNCIL.
fire birch vale

Just a quick one ... has anyone made enquiries regarding possible pollution of birch vale reservoir and the river sett , I know a boom was put out around the inlet on the res and there was little water put on the fire due to pollution run off .The EA were in attendance but the two women were there in the dark so i dont know what they were expecting to see . (i am a firefighter there all night the first night of the fire) the building and yard was full of chemicals so i would be asking a few questions and there was also airborne asbestos and glass along with toxic smoke which went over the res .

bowdon hall work party

Don't know if this is the right way to do this but here goes.

i was wondering if anyone fancies another work party at Bowdon hall?
the far side is very muddy due to the drainage from the field and requires digging and a pathway making so you can walk around the pond.
i think now would be the best time to do this before the raining season starts.
going of messages on here i was thinking maybe a Tuesday afternoon around 17:30 - 18:00 ish
i estimate 2 hours work before we run out of light but if enough turn up that's all we will need.
please note this is just an idea at the moment to see who is interested.
i will ask the committee and get cards stamped for those who attend.

that's it for now, please post your thoughts

john

Can I fish Bowden Hall yet?

Hi all. I've put a couple of replies on other posts to this tune, but nobody has yet answered them, so I'll try with a fresh post. Basically, when can members who haven't attended a work party fish Bowden Hall? I've not been to a work party purely because of my job on the railway, which means I work some strange hours including Saturdays and Sundays. I AM WILLING (and keen) to attend a work party, and I have asked on this forum if there are any more planned, but nobody seems to know. I feel at the moment that I'm being done out of fishing a water controlled by my club, to whom I pay the same subscriptions as anybody else, through no fault of my own. Even if there are no more work parties planned, is there anything I can do on my own, or with just one or two other members, this would be fine. I'm sure other members are chomping at the bit as well, so if anybody can enlighten me, please do.
Many thanks.
Monyash

Hi. I'm new to the club this year, so don't know the waters very well. I've fished quite a few now though and am planning a trip to Monyash soon. I've spoke to a few members who've fished it before, but years ago. So, has anyone fished it more recently, and have you any advice for me? I've rigged up my rake to dredge the swim, and I'm prepared to get there early, get some hemp and corn down, fish worm/caster/corn etc on the hook, so am I along the right lines? Are there any particularly good pegs or methods? All advice will be welcome and I'll post my results on here if people are interested. Many thanks, Paul (bobthetrain)

Just hope future work parties are as successful as the ones done at Bowden.

Now Andy has a decent list
of candidates we can get the other waters looking as good.

A great idea to have a central lock-up tool-store/area.
A couple of suggestions though;

Can we arrange for brewing facilities to be on site for the work parties.

Can we have a checklist of tools that we own or can acquire.

Can we have a method statement of work to be done at each site, so that we know what equipment will be required for each site

Can we arrange for trouser pockets to be sewn up
