Hi. I'm new to the club this year, so don't know the waters very well. I've fished quite a few now though and am planning a trip to Monyash soon. I've spoke to a few members who've fished it before, but years ago. So, has anyone fished it more recently, and have you any advice for me? I've rigged up my rake to dredge the swim, and I'm prepared to get there early, get some hemp and corn down, fish worm/caster/corn etc on the hook, so am I along the right lines? Are there any particularly good pegs or methods? All advice will be welcome and I'll post my results on here if people are interested. Many thanks, Paul (bobthetrain) |

Reply with quote | #2 | hi i fished it twice last year (no had the chance this)and after raking it out and leaving it for around 2 hours i was into a lot of small tench and a few crusian. with regards to bait i think anything will go as there are so many small fish in there to give you hours of fun. i used 1/2pint of maggot until they ran out then pellet. its a nice water especially on a nice sunny day.
hope you have fun

Thanks for replying John. I've heard people talking about 'small' tench here. What is small? Are we talking a few ounces, or a pound or two? I'm not overly bothered about the size, it's just I'm aware tench give a good fight, and in a heavily weeded water I was just trying to decide what sort of strength of tackle to use. Cheers, Paul. |

Just to let you all know I fished for about 4 hours this morning, from about 6.30am, caught about 2 dozen (no exaggeration) tench, and one crucian. They were all small, the biggest no more than a pound, but they were all perfect. I fished over hemp, bit of corn, and a few dead maggots, with 2-3 maggots or a single grain of corn on a size 18 hook. It went pretty quiet at around 9:30 - 10am, with only a few more fish, so early doors looks favorite. It is very weedy, but it's worth raking. And it's a beautiful location, especially at 6 am. Monyash gets the thumbs up from me! |
